It was 5:30pm in the evening and I had just walked outside from our family home to chat with my brother and Father who were sitting on a fallen coconut tree drinking fresh green coconuts. The sun was just setting and had lit up the sky before settling for the night. I pulled out my camera to capture this. Everything was so calm. The little hospital sits on the corner just under that coconut tree. I believe it’s been moved more inland due to cyclones and rising tides. Kids had just finished tulihopo ( diving) off that boat in the foreground and were heading inside to have bread and tea for dinner. How much they enjoyed just swimming there every evening was amazing. They never tired of it, day after day until they reached an age where other responsibilities took up their time. In the distance you can see the active volcanic islands of Tofua and Kao. They sit next to each other as neighbours. I love this view because of how calm it is. It isn’t political, it doesn’t have an agenda it just exists and reminds us how beautiful the world is and just how important moments like this with friends and family are.
