Photo by Pete McBride @pedromcbride | The burial rituals for many religions are also impacted by the coronavirus. In India, along the banks of the Ganges in the ancient city of Varanasi, funeral pyres used to burn 24 hours a day. Hindus believe that if their ashes are submerged in the river, it will bring salvation, or Moksha, breaking the cycle of reincarnation. Today, under current restrictions, large gatherings are not allowed, and a shortage of funeral priests have left the burning ghats and the pyres empty. My heart goes out to those who are facing such isolated mourning situations right now. To see more on the Ganges, head to @pedromcbride. #ganges #ritual #covid19 #nature #life
