While in quarantine in upstate New York, artist Nicolas Party (@nicolasparty) has been thinking of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. “When Chihiro enters a new world, she starts to become transparent,” he says. “What an interesting vision she is having, seeing through her arm and witnessing her body becoming immaterial.” In his new work, a self-portrait titled Portrait and Cave and commissioned for Vogue, the androgynous figure is translucent as well, conveying a sense of underlying anxiety.
