For the past week, in the bag production department located within my painting studio in Miyoshi, Saitama Prefecture, a team has been working on making masks to be supplied to the Kaikai Kiki staff.

In and around Tokyo we haven’t experienced any lockdowns yet and at my studio in Saitama, just north of Tokyo, we have been making an enormous painting for a major exhibition at the Mori Art Museum @森美術館 , titled Stars, which was meant to be an accessible presentation by the Japanese art world aimed at the overseas guests who were to pour into the country for the now-postponed Olympics. I was having a difficult time securing disposable masks for my staff working around the clock, so I decided to make them in-house.
These are washable, reusable masks—though of course washing and drying them takes a bit of work—and they have been distributed among the staff.

The first batch has the flower printed on them.
The studio is filled with tension but it seems that some smiles have returned. 🙏🙏🙏 translation: @tabi_the_fat
