I’m an Indigenous storyteller and steward from the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw, Nuučaan̓uł, and Métis Nations. Currently residing within my Nuučaan̓uł roots on Vancouver Island, BC.⠀ ⠀ I’m blessed to have been raised near and within my ancestral homelands along the coast. Living amongst the homelands, along with curating this post, made me realise my heart constantly jumps between the coastline, mountain ranges, and everything in-between. ⠀ ⠀ Much like my ancestors, I have learned from the land and waters being a steward. The most recent example is working within Ditidaht territory, as a West Coast Trail Guardian, and reconnecting with those roots. During the season, we Ditidaht Guardians stay within a village site and our cabin is next to the remaining longhouse structures. In less than a few months, I managed to re-learn DiiɁdiitidq, comprehended how some words and phrases were created, and understood the livelihood of our ancestors. ⠀ ⠀ My part as a storyteller has evolved throughout the years. It started out as being a music and tour photographer. Then I got involved with tourism, as a tour guide, photographer, and marketing manager. Now I have many important roles with my tribe and families. Within my spare time and explorations, I educate others through vulnerability, such as respectfully sharing what I can from my ancestral teachings and personal journeys in life.⠀ ⠀ Finally, what I admire most about what is known as British Columbia is the diversity. Everything from the various terrains, abundance of flora and fauna, and what they have to teach us. How there are 7 Indigenous language families and 34 languages in British Columbia, which represents 60% of the First Nations languages in Kanata. Along with how each tribe and nation learned from their surroundings. How they interpret their teachings in various forms, such as paintings, carvings, songs, dances, and ceremonies. We’re all unique yet interconnected.
