These good luck dolls are purchased around the New Year. With each Daruma, a new wish or goal is set for the coming year with a painting in a single eye. The second eye is to be filled in upon achieving the goal. On the following New Year, a holy ceremony is held to burn the completed Darumas, returning their spirits back to the heavens. #japan #daruma #takasaki #tradition
