It is one of the islands where I grew up on. That church in the background I would attend every Sunday when I wasn’t running away to go fishing. It was recently rebuilt after a cyclone took the roof. Life was slow and magical. 30 years ago the leaders of the world promised to keep children safe. We didn’t have much in those days but we always felt safe and still to this day the children of Haapai are safe and happy.
