I think it’s a very important one, because the majority of swimmers suffer with body image and their relation with food. I want to tell you and the people who cares about you, that almost the 95% of the artistic sports athletes have a lack of confidence with their bodies. I’ve never seen a team where people was completely happy with their body shape. This is a huge problem in our days, where the image has such a strong power! I’m not going to solve this problem today, but I’m going to help you to find ways to arrange it. It‘s kind of sad that half of the world is dying of hunger while half of the world is “dying” to lose weight. It’s just absurd! We have a difficult challenge everyday, we know that an artistic sport values aesthetics and the current beauty standard is about skinny bodies (starting to change in some parts of the world, but still far from real change). It is like this, and the logic way to solve it is to accept your body and be happy with what you have. But is not so easy right? We also know that we feel much better in the water having less weight and our scores will increase. There are different kinds of eating disorders. Today I’ll talk about eating more than what you want. There is the famous emotional eating, which is a way of self-destruction, but the root comes from our education. At least in our generation, our parents and grandparents rewarded us with candies and food. We had an ice cream if we did a good job or a cake if we were sad to forget about the problem. In a lot of families this is still happening, I can see it everywhere “if you do this I will give you a cookie!” the aunt or the grandma coming with sweets, they were taught to give love with sugar. We received this and we also do it with our kids: We want to see this happy face of a toddler when we give him this ice cream. There is not a bad purpose behind, (...)
