Being 30, queer and unsure about whether or not I want to have kids has been difficult. Especially when it seems like everyone else is so certain about where they stand (I know the reality is, lots of people are unsure). When @NorthwellHealth reached out to see if I wanted to come to their event tonight, it was an enthusiastic YES for me because 1. this is something that’s on my mind daily and 2. I saw that LGBTQIA+ family planning was front and center on their fertility page. This immediately made me feel seen. I have a million and one questions about options, the process, and well… ALL OF IT. I’ve been avoiding this for a while because tbh I’m scared. What if l wait too long? What if I’m infertile? What if I don’t want to carry? What if I do? Years ago, I was given some great advice: avoidance is not a strategy. Honestly, this popped into my inbox at the perfect time because as of tonight, I’m officially not avoiding this conversation with myself anymore. I’m learning, gathering information and taking notes – all in a safe and fun environment. (There were games! Hence the tickets in my hands 😎) I genuinely have no idea where I’ll land in the future, but what I do know for sure is that for right now, it’s okay to not be sure.
