Jonathon Blank, who lost his legs in 2010 when an improvised explosive device detonated next to him in Afghanistan. "I thought this would be something epic for him to experience," Nelson said. So last weekend, the two set out on a 14-mile hike, with an elevation change of roughly 4,500 feet—with Blank on Nelson's back. Along the way, fellow hikers were in awe of the pair's dedication. “We didn’t get into special operations being quitters,” Blank said.
