I had completely forgotten I had taken this photo until running across it yesterday on an old drive. I shot this in 2008, a light painting of #HorseshoeBend in northern #Arizona. The @NikonUSA D3 had just come out and it was ground breaking, the first true low light camera opening up possibilities to photograph the stars with less image degradation then ever before. I used a 2 million candle power sodium spot light here, throwing light down into the canyon from a good 1/2 mile away. Exposure was 30 seconds at 6400 ISO, firing the D3 camera remotely. I remember not liking the photo at the time, but looking back now, it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever shot. I learned to light paint on this large scale from @daveblackphoto but never could pull it off like Dave, a true master. He can perfectly light paint something as tiny as a fishing fly to as large as Mitten Rock in monument valley and it all looks immaculate.
