Photo by @hellokrisdavidson | The Atchafalaya River is a distributary of the Mississippi River, with its woods, fertile marshes, and meandering waters providing an essential habitat for countless flora and fauna. It is situated at the heart of Cajun country and steeped in culture and history. Sleeping in the Atchafalaya Basin feels a bit like time travel, or at the very least, like Indiana Jones caliber adventuring; one can’t help but wonder what lurks below the opaque, mirror surface, a Rorschach of sorts inviting introspection. Time seems suspended while sitting on the deck of the houseboat at dusk, beholding a scene that is haunting, mysterious, and completely beautiful. #NPS #cajuncountry
