A recently finalized overhaul of the 1973 Endangered Species Act will reduce protections for endangered and threatened species, while making it easier for companies to build mines and roads, and to drill for oil and gas, on critical habitat. Meanwhile, a recent United Nations report found that climate change threatens a million more species with extinction.
