No, it's not a Hobbit house or a cabin in the woods. This is an elaborate live animal trap our team stumbled across while on patrol outside the protected Gunung Leuser National Park. This is a new form of trap for the rangers to find, with tempting food inside to lure unwitting wildlife in, using jackfruit and durian as bait - a delicacy during this fruiting season. There is still so much to be done in forest edge communities in the Leuser Ecosystem, the most important being to understand why locals set traps and how we can help them with alternative livelihoods that don't harm the environment.
