When you think back on your childhood, what’s your favorite summer memory or family tradition? I asked this question over on @mommyshortssquad and I have to say— not one mention of cruises, Disney World or exotic vacations. All the answers (swipe left to read my faves) involved simple, easily attainable things that prove you don’t need to do anything elaborate to create lasting memories for your kids. always_live_your_best_life My best and really only memories of summer when I was young was the summers my cousins from California would come. Starting from like 6 years old my aunt would send my cousins to my grandmas (lived across the street). My cousin Jenny was my best friend/soul sista. We played all day every day non stop. We LOVED Karate Kid, so every summer one of us was married to Ralph Macchio and one was married to Daniel LaRusso. And then the next summer we would switch husbands. What we used for our husbands when we played were large inflatable crayons we won at a carnival. We had “babies” and delivered them in my room at the same time on the same day. We scavenged for change in the couches or tried to start a car wash business just so we can make some money and run to the corner store and buy candy. Oh the many things we did. We used what we had to play with and made some awesome memories. Simpler times back then, that’s for sure. So grateful for my aunt for sending my cousins the whole summer. This happened for a few years and those are my BEST memories of the summer. @colombyana2

jessicakellin We used to visit family ever summer in upstate New York. The visit was nice, but I miss the car ride the most. We drove from Connecticut to Rochester in about seven hours. My mom made seat-back car organizers for all of our ‘entertainment’. I had my Walkman with kids tapes and my mystery ink book. Snacks in the middle between my sister and me. Twizzlers and grapes were our go-tos. We went up at the same time as my grandparents and aunt and uncle and cousins. We would meet up along the drive at toll booths and rest stops on the NY Thruway.

birdie91710 My parents weren't wealthy but we had a little lake house that we would vacation at every weekend in the summer. It was on a double lot and the empty lot was a huge wildflower field. I would wonder through it and butterflies would land on me and i felt like a magical princess. I had a special climbing tree that only i could get to the highest branches and id take my favorite doll up and just watch the world slowly move around me. We sold the house when i was ten and I've never been that happy again.

flbarbie81 We lived out in the middle of nowhere on a ranch. I remember running through the cow pasture playing tag and throwing dried cow patties at each other (sounds gross but country folks know what I'm talking about), bonfires and playing outside until the wee hours. Also jumping in the swamp buggy and riding around. Whenever we saw an armadillo my dad would stop and we'd jump off and catch them. We'd let them go again and by the end of the night whoever caught the most got to "drive" the buggy back.

wenben74 Camping trips with my Gram and Gramp. Fishing with Grandpa, learning to cast. Learning to steer the boat. Sleeping at their campground. I always got the bunk bed above the table. I remember the ticking sound of my grandma’s clock lulling me to sleep as a child. Most of my fondest memories included my grandparents either at their house or camping. My gramp was a builder and I got to play in his workshop and ride with him on his big red tractor. They were amazing and I miss them dearly. 💕

tory__smith My parents would pack us all in the car on random days and we would just drive. We'd tour different towns and cities try new chip trucks and ice cream shops, find different tourist attractions and parks and just explore. To this day its my favorite thing to do. Nothing makes me more happy then just hopping in the car with no destination in mind and exploring the shops, cafes and attractions of towns ive never been to ❤️ @bella.floralista
