As much as Harlow missed Mazzy while she was away at camp, I think she really enjoyed being the only child for four weeks. She had no one to compete with, no one to stifle her Harlow-ness, no one else sucking up mom’s attention... And, don’t tell Mazzy, but I really enjoyed that time alone with Harlow too. It was a relief to focus all my attention on one kid without feeling guilty about short changing the other. It occurred to me that six years-old is really the perfect age for one-on-one time. It's an age when your kid is totally entertaining and able to have real conversations, but still thinks Mom is their whole world. I wrote a post about how valuable this time was to me. The post is called “The Summer of Harlow” and the link is in my bio. Bring tissues.

When I read about the bond over survivor it reminded me of when my mom and I bonded over a show about contractions and labor and all the magical details about childbirth when I was like 7 or 8. She was preparing herself to become a nurse specialized in gyno and peds before becoming a full time mom. I tried to follow in her footsteps but turns out I have a very weak stomach 😅

Just read it, loved it! As the mom of three I so understand the lack of one on one time and constant guilt. I love following your parenting journey... you parent your girls with kindness, love and respect and they are turning out to be amazing humans because of it. Keep on keeping on, you are an inspiration and awesome role model to all of us on this motherhood journey!

My second is the same age as Harlow (almost to the day) and I have an 8 year old who is going to a 5 day overnight camp for the first time this week and I’m so looking forward to the time - even more after reading your post!
Our family LOVES survivor too - my boys just hate when their favs get voted out 😂

My youngest is 4, and he and I have gotten so much alone time together since he is the only one I pick up at the end of the day and he often ends up running errands with me. I am filling cherishing it since he starts school full time soonish! But your post 100% spoke to my heart!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I love hearing about your survivor bond. I just started watching with my 5 year old recently as well. I have waited his whole life to find a show that we can both truly enjoy together. I’m ecstatic that he loves it. So funny to hear that you are doing the same w Harlow this summer. 💕

This hit home. But now more with missing that time. My nieces are 15&17 and the carefree days are gone. They’ll still cuddle when they think no one is watching but they’re almost adults. Sometimes I relive the little kid years just wishing for a little time back 💗💜
