Sooo I have a confession...

I hate press handstands and I’ve always been reallllyyyyy bad at them (not in a “fishing for compliments way,” but factually). On my best day like before the Olympics, I could muscle up 3 at best. It was so embarrassing.

It was probably one of my biggest frustrations as a gymnast since I trained like 20 a day. 🤦🏼♀️ Anyways, I do this press handstand modification combo bc it’s still so hard for me and working on improving them is such good motivation for me during my workouts.

I don’t know how many young female gymnasts follow you but consider that by honestly sharing the “difficulty” and your “struggle”, you’ve just given them that much more confidence. If an Olympic medalist had trouble with a specific task and acknowledges the difficulty and frustration, those young gymnasts with any challenges they’re facing now have even more hope. That may not have been your intention but I certainly think you’ve brightened some outlooks and provided additional resolve today.

I always tried to teach myself a press handstand when I was younger... but I could never get past step 1: lift my own body weight with my arms. That is one of those skills that impresses me to no end.

I tried one and fell on my head... I told my 3 year old self not to do that again and have kept my promise lol

Ugh same!! I could never do them! 😤 handstand push ups sure, pull ups yup, press handstands... absolutely not

Same! I was the strongest in every test we performed each year EXCEPT the press to handstand. Ugh.
