“[Dark tourism is] a very dangerous field. It comes with it; it is problematic if it's very nationalistic but also if it’s very well-intended.” - @thomasdworzak

I completely disagree with idea of calling this dark tourism , i know that now we are making projects out of anything but this is complete nonsense 😂. I go all the time on sites of various war events but mostly to understand , do not forget and try to connect with what was happening in the past . Its important we have this sites to learn from all bad things which happened in the past. And why is called “dark tourism “ ?? You think its something bad people or couples come to visit this places ? I think its more important to do so actually and we should make more people understand what was really happening in the past , like on example with my country Yugoslavia who was partly manipulated and destroyed by western forces, its nothing nationalistic , its all for understanding and education. This project is 👎👎👎

So a Middle Age castle in Europe is stil a dark tourism? Military uniforms and buildings has always been part of our history, battles has been written and narrated since the early stage of human being, we study that at school, so it comes naturally to be interested ad some point. Approach to these sites should be made with respect and knowledge of the events. Somehow memory is a way to not repeat and fall again into mistakes, massacres and war. So memory is the only way to no repeat and these museums act for it. but people show a lack of respect in these places like everywhere else. 🙏

@andrzejm well the photog said it’s bad even if it’s well-intended so😅 I’m interested to know this photographer’s view on so called “war photos” where they literally takes photos of people getting killed. And they present these photos in art galleries, museum, newspapers, magazines and the internet. And they get awards. 🤭

@dalia_missbeehave this is exactly what is written in photo’s description and exactly what we can see in the picture: holidays to sites commemorating tragic events.
The thing is this is NOT “dark tourism”. Also how dark tourism is “nationalistic”? Think Jews visiting Auschwitz, Americans sightseeing Gettysburg,?!?!?!

Personally wouldn’t go too those places as a key reason for a holiday too a place. But when a museum is there always go too find out more about it. Like in Hamburg st Nichols church the spire left standing there is a good museum about the ww11 bombings there that type of thing definitely worth a visit.
