A trove of lewd photographs of young women and girls was discovered inside the financier Jeffrey Epstein’s New York mansion on Saturday. The same day in New Jersey, the authorities arrested Epstein, whose social circle is filled with socialites, celebrities and powerful figures, including U.S. presidents, past and current. On Monday, federal prosecutors in Manhattan charged him with sex trafficking. According to the indictment, he held naked massage sessions with the girls — many of them underage — paying them hundreds of dollars and asking some of them to recruit others. The case could also prompt a reckoning for the Justice Department, which has been accused of mishandling similar allegations a decade ago. Several of Epstein’s accusers said they were relieved that the authorities finally seemed to be taking their complaints seriously. “I was 14. I had braces on,” Courtney Wild told ABC News on Monday. This is a developing story. Click the link in our bio for the latest. Steven M. L. Aronson shot this photo of FBI agents entering Epstein’s home.
