I wanted to find a way to show the pyramids differently from the external shots of whole triangular volumes in all their massiveness. Upon first glance, the pyramids seem to be smooth. But, in reality, they are not: one can clearly make out the enormous blocks of stone which had been carried here and carefully mounted, one on top of the other. The presence of the men lends a human scale, indicating the size of the blocks of stone. I deliberately make use of the horizontal lines interspersed with vertical lines which contribute to the visual composition. The human presence provides an essential balance to the image and imbues it with mystery.
