After I graduated film school I had two options, to either be someone’s assistant at a production company and try to work my way up the ranks, which would have taken forever, or continue to freelance and create my own content which is what I truly have a passion for. I feel like a lot of people who come out of film school may feel lost because it is much harder to create a professional career in this industry than you originally imagined. All I can say to any aspiring filmmakers is to keep your head up when the lows are low because the highs will eventually come when you work hard enough. Always continue to get your foot in the door any way you can by reaching out to artists, brands, and other filmmakers. Networking is key, don’t be afraid to create those relationships with people around you and help them turn their idea into a reality by using your skills. It’s crucial to continue to learn more about your craft so you can deliver and make your clients happy and feel confident in your work. When you hit speed bumps during production don’t freak out, instead think of ways to find solutions while staying positive rather than having a negative attitude about the issues you will face. Enjoy the process, create good energy on set, and have that perseverance so you are able to bounce back and keep moving forward no matter what. Be a leader who doesn’t take the easy route.
