On Tuesday June 6, 1944, the Allied invasion of Northern France began. The broad-scale invasion of Nazi-held mainland Europe, codenamed Operation Overlord, started with numerous amphibious landings along the Normandy coast, codenamed Operation Neptune, but most commonly referred to today as ‘D-Day’.
.
Early on the morning of June 6, Robert Capa left Weymouth, Dorset and landed on Omaha Beach alongside the soldiers.
.
Ahead of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, we look back at the Magnum co-founder's historic documentation of the landing and the Allied push southward, through France and toward Paris. Link in bio.
