@pie_aerts // “After being on Instagram for 4 years I lost my appetite for creation and I started to notice that these ‘digital hunger games’ slowly pushed me away from who I really am as a photographer.
On top of that, I realised that much of the work I’ve done so far has been of little significance.
Conformity was killing my creativity.
Purpose & meaning started to itch.
Therefore, on March 1st 2018, 15 months ago, I boarded an adventure to rediscover what photography means to me.
A journey that took me to places like Papua, Uganda, Patagonia and the Himalayas but most importantly, a journey to the very core of what it means to be a photographer in the 21st century.
In times of environmental, social and political instability.
On a planet that’s dying.
I spoke to many people from lots of different backgrounds & spent significant time in nature.
While doing so I discovered narratives that exceed far beyond the limits of Instagram.
So I decided to step back for a while to create room to breathe, to think, to digest and to appreciate.
As a result I started @because.people.matter to celebrate rediscovering what photography means to me.
And after a long period of absence I’m recharged for a new start so let’s stir things up a little here.
It’s time for change”.
