I remember the first Girl Scout overnight, which was when Mazzy was in 1st grade. It really felt like each mom and daughter were their own entity, figuring things out and fending for themselves as teams of two. This year was different. Now the girls are all really close with each other and it really felt more like two teams— the girls on one team doing their own thing and the moms on the other. Don’t get me wrong. It was a blast. Way more fun than those first years. The moms are my friends now too. We ate and drank and laughed and got to choose how involved we wanted to be with what our girls were doing. They were fine without us. A part of me misses that time when it felt like it was just Mazzy and me against the world. And a part of me welcomes this new chapter too. #thebigkidyears
