What looks to be a tornado here is actually inflow into a #wallCloud of a mesocyclone forcefully sucking in moisture. A wall cloud is prime territory for a tornado, right at the heart of a supercell where the most energy is being created. The smeared look of these photos is the result of a one minute exposure, something I’ve been wanting to play with while photographing these storms. If you swipe to the next photo you’ll see a pretty significant color shift as the conditions rapidly changed as the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) slammed into us bringing with it a wall of rain, hail, dust and our cue to get the hell out of there!
