To those of us who knew him, our lives were richer. It’s been a very hard week emotionally, mourning the loss of a true childhood friend, Shawn Higgins. I know of nobody in my life, perhaps outside of my father, that could tell a better story than Shawn. He could make a mundane day hilarious with anecdotes and a vividly descriptive vernacular like no other. In our childhood we were inseparable, skateboarding, getting into mild trouble, exploring and having mini adventures in the mountains of colorado. I lived with Shawn on and off for some 14 years and there wasn’t a day that he didn’t come home with a story that had you laughing your ass off. I mean that, it was extraordinary how truly hilarious one person could be. Nobody could talk like Shawn; weather you walked into a 7-11, a movie theater, a record store, a skate shop, almost anywhere, Shawn knew the person working there on a first name basis. He had the gift to gab, straight up. When Shawn got into something, he immersed himself and had a memory that was unmistakably photogenic. In this difficult time I will only remember the good times, the best times, the light he brought so many and how he touched the lives of us lucky enough to have known him. His passing shook me to the core and I’ve struggled processing it but such is life in dark times. Rest In Peace my friend and thank you for an unforgettable mark you left my life.
