As some time has passed I've realized that many of the criticisms leveled at me regarding my inclusion of Natalie in Then It Fell Apart are very valid.
I also fully recognize that it was truly inconsiderate of me to not let her know about her inclusion in the book beforehand, and equally inconsiderate for me to not fully respect her reaction.
I have a lot of admiration for Natalie, for her intelligence, creativity, and animal rights activism, and I hate that I might have caused her and her family distress.
I tried to treat everyone I included in Then It Fell Apart with dignity and respect, but nonetheless it was truly inconsiderate for me to not let them know before the book was released.
So for that I apologize, to Natalie, as well as the other people I wrote about in Then It Fell Apart without telling them beforehand.
Also I accept that given the dynamic of our almost 14 year age difference I absolutely should've acted more responsibly and respectfully when Natalie and I first met almost 20 years ago.

emilybradl3y You still did not check any facts before posting this and haven’t even fixed it in the almost month since you’ve posted this. Natalie Portman was NOT 20 in 1999 she was 17 turning 18. Criticisms are not just of your inclusion of her in your book it’s your blatant disregard to tell her about it and disrespect toward her reaction and her story. Just because someone was nice to you does not mean you dated. Taking a photo together does not mean you dated. She said you acted inappropriately and your first reaction was to give proof of dating instead of look inward???? This is a garbage apology you are delusional and part of what’s wrong with society’s views of men and women. That doesn’t make you a bad person, but you’ve got some inward looking to do.

ughmehwah I didn’t know anything about this until now. I just read an article. Why would Moby lie? Yes guys get signals crossed a lot of time but how can someone get dating confused? He was so creepy but she continued talking to him? So she thought they were friends and he thought they were more? The age gap and her just turning 18 is gross BUT let’s not act like most men in Hollywood and in the world haven’t done the same thing or wanted to. Why would he write that knowing she’d find out IF it wasn’t true in his eyes? Is he that pressed to be associated with her? This is lame. Moby come back. This is lame.

muzkore And pretty much, Moby is one of the only people that would have enough balls to apologise. Most of this backlash is from people that are consumed by protecting their image. Yes, it probably would have been good to let Natalie know but I have read the book and he would have had very little in the book if he had to go around asking permission for every interaction he had with another person. Life happens, we all make mistakes so how about we try exercising some forgiveness. We all need that from time to time.

arielbarkai @coach_bamm_bamm you’re an imbecile. There is nothing wrong with a guy asking out a girl who came to meet him as long as she was of legal age and he didn’t force himself on her. Herschlag became a big star with an academy award and suddenly a washed up ex addict DJ writing that they dated doesn’t suit her PR wise but when she was trying to make a name for herself and he had a number one album she had no problem going after what she wanted. coach_bamm_bamm @arielbarkai you’re right there is nothing wrong with someone going to a concert, going backstage to hang out with the band/musician, and wanting to hang out further with them. There is something wrong about a 33 year old thinking that means they are dating especially when the person is barely 18. People pointing that out shouldn’t be embarrassed the people that are saying there is nothing wrong with what Moby did should be though, especially if they are female.
