Photo by Pete McBride @pedromcbride // Sponsored by @BritaUSA // Near San Diego, a river drainage just north of the U.S.-Mexico border has become a giant plastic and pollution zone affecting not just the largest coastal river estuary in Southern California, but Imperial Beach and the Pacific Ocean as well. While many point blame across borders, our human dependence on single-use plastic plays a huge role in growing pollution problems like this. While single-use containers offer a remarkable convenience, less than 10 percent of them actually get recycled. This affects our rivers, our beaches, our oceans, our food, and ultimately our lifestyles. Thanks to the ongoing volunteer work of the Surfrider Foundation, steps are being taken to help this issue, but we all need to do more to change our single-use plastic paradigm. // @BritaUSA believes everyone deserves cleaner, great-tasting water without the waste of bottles. Last year alone, Brita owners filtered enough water to replace over 10.5 billion single-use plastic water bottles. Learn more at Brita.com.
