The seventy-five-year-old Agustín Par, pictured above, is in charge of a nursery with tens of thousands of tree saplings just outside the city of Totonicapán, in the western highlands of Guatemala. In a nearby village called Paraje León, a group of agronomists is showing local residents how to diversify their crops, conserve water, and reforest some of the surrounding areas as the community grapples with the ongoing effects of climate change. In honor of #EarthDay, tap the link in our bio to follow the photographer @limauricio and the writer @jonathanblitzer to the western highlands, where a variable climate affects nearly every aspect of daily life.
