Lalito head chef Kia Damon (@kiacookspersonal) has become a rising star on New York City’s ever-shifting culinary scene, and uses her personal Instagram to talk about daily microaggressions against QTPOC chefs and her battle with depression and anxiety. “You know, I only want to continue to be honest in all aspects of it,” she says, “that it’s not easy, that I do struggle with my mental health diagnosis and all of that. That my own existence outside of everything I do already makes life really difficult, so I just want to be my best self, you know. And if that is helpful to other people to be put up somewhere everyone can see it, then you know what, so be it.
