The diversity we saw on the Fall 2019 runways has been a long time coming. The notion of representation was once a foreign concept in certain circles. Models who diverged from the “norms” of thin, white, and cisgendered were too often excluded. Though strides have been made within the fashion world to catch up to the larger cultural movement toward inclusion, if you talk to the models who have lived through the changes, it’s clear there is still work to be done.
