Our beautiful, odd, strangely singular yet completely co-dependent dog Banjo is 10 years old today.
Can’t quite believe it.
He is a rescue. He was sitting by himself curled up in a ball at the back of the pen when we first saw him at a shelter. All the other dogs were bouncing around and jumping up and licking anyone who would accept their saliva. But Banj was a misfit. In the corner. With his back turned to the throng.
We were both taken by his loneliness. Still to this day it’s sometimes quite hard to find him in the house, because he hides from the world. He is shy. Doesn’t want to take up your time. Yet fiercely defensive of his domain and our babies.
We learned he was from a puppy mill and the only surviving sibling from his litter.
We don’t know what he is to this day, but somewhere in the ‘lousianna catahoula leopard dog’ mix.
We also don’t know his real birthday so chose April 1st.. not because he is a fool, but because he has an oddness about him that felt strangely fitting. And it’s close to when he would have been born.
He went grey within a month of our old dog Splash dying, which is why we went out and found Dave. His brother/best friend/confidant/antagonizer.

Our baby is a rescue too, Hank. He is part mastiff, boxer, lab. A 92 pound baby. We walked into our local Petco to get our 5 year old a fish. Hank was there with his foster mom. And caught my husband’s eye. When he saw saw Hank watching every move I made, anxious to come meet me.(I was still oblivious to him at this point) my husband called me over to meet his new friend. 1 week later we were picking him up from the place he was being fostered at. He found us. We didn’t find him. I wish I could share his picture here.

Awww I love this!!!! I adopted my dog @confessionsofamaltipoo from the shelter as well. He was also curled up in ball with his back to the glass. He was sooooo pitiful-looking. 😩 He had been neglected and abused. He was scared of everything. He wouldn’t even turn to see me... he just peered over his shoulder a bit. And I teared up. He had to be mine. And it was the best decision ever. 💗💗💗

@_annapaquin you should do the saliva genetic testing to see what breeds Banjo is! We did it with our pup and it’s wonderful and so interesting to have the break down!
