Photo by @daisygilardini | Fogbows (aka white rainbows, cloudbows or “ghost(s) of a rainbow”) form the same way as rainbows. Light is reflected inside tiny water droplets and emerges to form a large circle or arc of approximately 42°, centered on the antisolar point, opposite the sun. Fogbows are frequently seen over Arctic waters, but are also well known in mountain regions. I captured this image while cruising the ice edge north of the Svalbard archipelago, between mainland Norway and the North Pole, at roughly 83 degrees north. Follow me @daisygilardini for more images and behind-the-scenes stories.
