If you’re wondering how I managed to record good sounding music when in the ‘70s I announced I’d been told I was going deaf, the solution is sitting beside me. The wonderful Myles Clarke. Assistant Producer on the new Who album. Engineer for Alfie Boe’s vocals on Classic Quadrophenia. Recording engineer on both Reg Meuross and also The Bookshop Band projects, produced by me, and work still in progress. Myles also checks all my mixes before they are finalized. He manages Grand Cru our studio on a barge in London. .

I have significant tinnitus. From what I have read part of the reason the ear is ringing is the absence of the high frequencies and the brain reproduces them. The brain is hungry for those missing frequencies. I started wearing Bose HEARphones rather than hearing aids. All the high frequencies are back and I can hear incredibly well. My brain is getting the high frequencies it desires and my ears don’t ring anymore. It’s crazy and amazing. I think there is a lot of Great technology on the horizon for us not to mention what I’m using now. #bosehearphones

I’ve damaged my hearing after two instances of engineering my own late night tracking sessions and in the midst of excitement, creativity, lack of sleep and probably a beer or two forgetting to turn off the monitors and hitting record. Wild uncontrollable feedback which hurt my ears and fried my tweeters on one occasion. I imagine It’s nice to have someone with golden ears to have your back...or ears. Cheers!

I wear them all day every day and when I go to concerts and clubs I don’t worry about your protection they completely fill the year and I control the volume and bass and treble from an app on my iPhone. I can’t say enough about these. I never have a hearing hangover anymore from going to a concert or a club and I don’t have to wear those foam ear protectors that kill the quality of the sound.

Pete, Tom Rose here a lifetime fan of your work. I have significant hearing loss as well. I picked up a pair of “Bose Hearphones” not headphones HEARphones. $500.bucks. Changed my life. The quality and fidelity is remarkable. Historically I have not been a fan of Bose products. This is the only Bose product I own. I am grateful to that company as a result.

I don’t mean to transform this into a medical page… Or anything I’m just very curious how you dealt with your tinnitus?? I’ve blown out many speakers listening to your stuff… I’m sure that may have a little to do with it :-)

@yaggerdang I’m from Manchester and when listening to the rock station XS Manchester there’s one of their DJs claim you gave them hearing damage in the 70s, but it was with worth it! Haha
