One of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes in North America, Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a place of natural beauty and living legends. A dry climate, sheltering cliffs and the watchful eyes of local residents protect the distinctive architecture, artifacts and rock imagery. Completely within the Navajo Nation in #Arizona, the park’s signature vista is looking down at Spider Rock, an 825-foot-tall sandstone spire that got its name from the Navajo story of the Spider Woman. elinaogsta We were there last April. Actually, the photo of Spider Rock that I once saw on Instagram was the one that got us going and I planned the whole trip to the US with this place on my mind as must-see No.1. Oh man, it was marvellous! And less crowded than any other scenic place. No crowd at all! Also, very delightful and even spiritual was a hike down in canyon to see White House ruins. Canyon de Chelly definitely is one of my favorite places in the US

faustbite Thanks to the canyon the US army or the Spanish Colonizers could never permanently occupy or subdue Navajo land.
