In this photo you can see the beginnings of our agroforest project in Guatemala! Natural forests have a variety of different types and sizes of plants to help protect young saplings from the sun - our agroforestry land was clear cut for cattle grass, so we're working on building this forest from the ground up. Cocoa requires shade, but since we don’t want to wait for the other sun loving trees in the system to grow and provide shade, we use palm fronds protect it. These are replaced 2-3 times a year and are used as mulch after they're replaced. With luck, these saplings will start producing gorgeous ingredients for our products in 2 to 4 years! ?✨?
