Happy #InternationalWomensDay - we celebrate women today not to take away from the beautiful men in our world: the ones who stand by and for us against those who would seek to cause us harm, but in many ways because of them. They are often the ones reminding us of our worth when this world has caused us to forget. We also celebrate women on this day because sometimes women forget to celebrate themselves. Sometimes we can become consumed with all the things WE ARE NOT that we forget to celebrate what and who WE ARE. —— I. Am. A. Woman. I am strong AND soft. I am fierce AND meek. I am nurturing AND a conqueror. I am peace AND war. I war... against injustice. I war against hate. I war against fear. I war against darkness. And I do it all with my ever-feminine, continually flowing, eternal heart full of love. And to the men who preyed on my innocence, who sought to hide away my light and love, who had me living in fear of all that I am/all that I am meant to be... I love you anyway! —- because MY LOVE is bigger than your fear! MY LIGHT is brighter than your darkness. You can have me and what is mine NO MORE.
To My Baby Brother, Jonathan: You have been the catalyst for the most transformative year of my life. I am truly the strongest women I can be because of you and the purity of your innocent love and trust. You taught me that I can be a child again, but that this time around that little girl is safe. You showed me my capacity to embrace the nurturing woman in me. You showed me that she is stronger than I ever thought. You are the little man of all my dreams. I think of you every single day. My love for you is eternal and where love is fear cannot be. You taught me this on the deepest of levels because you are made of pure love. You allowed me to see the men who have hurt me for who they could have been: the wonderful man you will be. I don’t forgive because they deserve it, I forgive because I choose to give up hope that the past can ever be changed. I forgive so the past can remain where it is meant to remain. In the past.
