Here you can see the production process of Shirakawa daruma. The main body of the dolls is made from papier-mâché. It’s first painted in a base color (usually red) and left to dry naturally. Next is the face. After that are the white eyes. Finally decorations are added on the base colour. When customers buy these daruma, they draw in the eyes themselves, while making a wish, or thinking of a goal they want to achieve! The doll is finally complete wen the new owner can draw in the final eye ? they can’t do this until they’ve achieved their goal though ☺️
