The Big Southern Butte rises over 2,500 ft. above eastern #Idaho's Snake River Plain. At only 300,000 years old, it's one of the youngest and largest formations of its kind in the world. The challenging trail to the summit ends in an unparalleled 360 degree view of the plain and distant mountain ranges. Near #CratersoftheMoon National Monument, visiting #BigSouthernButte is easiest from mid-May through October - depending on snow conditions, so there’s still time to book your visit. Grew up with this as the (distant) view from our front yard. There’s “twin” buttes just East if BSB. We used to say that BSBeS the mamma and the Twin Buttes were her kids. Random thoughts of kids. Thanks for posting and the memories this pic brought back

I drove past BSB on US highway 20 a few years ago, on my way to Craters of the Moon!

Hey why do you present it at 300,000 years old like it’s a fact? That’s an opinion.

Hey! I took this photo! Glad BSB is being seen for what it is. Amazing place!
