@alfonsocuaron won best director and best cinematography at the #Oscars on Sunday for “Roma,” which also won best foreign language film. Alfonso’s film tells the story of his childhood in #Mexico — but is seen from the vantage point of the domestic worker who raised him. To achieve this, Alfonso returned to Mexico to shoot a film in his homeland for the first time in nearly 20 years. After directing “Gravity,” which grossed more than $700 million worldwide, won 7 #AcademyAwards and made Alfonso the first Mexican ever to receive the #Oscar for best director, “they offered me bigger pictures with bigger budgets, bigger everything,” he explained. Instead, he poured himself into “Roma.” This,” his manager, Steve Golin, told @nytmag writer Marcela Valdes, “was the most expensive home movie ever made.” Visit the link in our profile to see highlights from @アカデミー賞 awards and learn more about how Alfonso approached @romacuaron. @andreaslaszlokonrath shot this portrait of Alfonso.
