During the summer of 2004 I spent a summer working on my MSc degree in Svalbard, high up in the Arctic. Little did I know that this summer would be the jumpstart of a career in photography. During a field trip we briefly visited a research station further up North, which was known to have an Arctic fox den around. Even while it was drizzling, I wanted to see if I would have a chance to photograph the Arctic foxes and didn't care too much about the rest of the station visit. After having waited for 3,5hours and with the ship about to leave, the sun finally came through and 6 little fox kits came out of the den to explore the Arctic tundra.
While I never had published a single image, I entered the images in the professional-category of a Dutch nature photography competition, which to my surprise awarded me as the overall winner of the contest. I never finished my MSc degree and decided to dedicate my life to tell stories about the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
