Today on Instagram, we are sharing a series of images from @steeleperkins' new book, 'The New Londoners’, for which he has photographed and interviewed 164 families who collectively come from 187 different countries. You can support the Kickstarter campaign to publish the book now via the link in bio on the Magnum photographer's profile: @steeleperkins. . "The New Londoners project started four years ago, thinking of a different way to photograph migration, one of the great issues of our time. I wanted to make a record of these seismic times when it becomes possible to say that all the worlds' nations have come to live in London to create a population of a new kind, turning London into a truly polyglot city, probably the most multi-cultural, multi-ethnic in the world. The work is about the new peoples who are re-making London: a fabulous cross section of world citizens of whom I am a part, living here, working here, learning here, changing here, defining here. I am an immigrant from Burma myself and am part of this book. I am proud to be one of The New Londoners. . Djibouti: Photographing in peoples' homes threw up many challenges, the two most common were hyperactive kids and big black sofas that took up most of the living room and wouldn't move. So when I saw this small bright sofa and that blue....add in two charming children I felt this was going to go well." - @steeleperkins . PHOTO: The New Londoners. From Djibouti.
