Photo by @babaktafreshi | Swipe left to see the panoramic view from the top of the 10,000-ft high summit of Haleakala on Maui, Hawaii. Nature is full of surprises. It was near sunset when two atmospheric phenomena appeared: the Glory (or Brocken Spectre) and fogbow (the ring), thanks to the fog, low angle sunlight from behind, and my own shadow.
Being a science photographer I have captured them many times in the past but not as this clear. In mythology the Glory was often represented the observer’s personal enlightenment (Buddha’s light in China for instance). Follow me @babaktafreshi for more of the Earth & sky photo stories
