Photo by @joemcnallyphoto An up in the air selfie! Backseat in an F-16, over the Sierras, near Edwards Air Force Base. I shot this of myself, thinking I would show the grandchildren. But it ended up running as a two page spread, and one of the lead photos in the @ナショナルジオグラフィック Future of Flight story that was the cover story for December 2003. Pulled just slightly over 9g’s on this ride. We were dogging the F-22 Raptor, which was still in test phase at Edwards. Only 5 Raptors were flying at the time, so permissions for my photo flight went right to the top of the Air Force chain of command. I was given precisely 30 minutes with the F-22 at my disposal, on coms with my pilot in the F-16. #flight #aviation #speed #supersonic
