‘SURROGATI. Un amore ideale’ ➡️ Today on vogue.it read the article by @alessiaglaviano and #AndreaBocchiola about the exhibition on display at Osservatorio @fondazioneprada from February 21st to July 22nd. Curated by #MelissaHarris ‘Surrogati. Un amore ideale’ investigates - through the works of @jamiediamond and @dorfmanelena - the notions of romantic, sexual and familiar love in the context of the advanced capitalist, post-modern society. Of #JamieDiamond ‘s works, the exhibition will present ‘Forever Mothers’ and ‘Nine Months of Reborning’, in which the artist portrays the Reborners, a community of female artists that craft, collect and interact with hyper-realistic baby dolls. While in ‘I promise to be a good mother’, Diamond acts out various ‘perfect mother’ stereotypes by photographing herself with a silicone baby doll. Deeply rooted in the critical and artistic tradition of post-modern feminism and gender studies, this series works with stereotypes and models derived from Western societies to question the notion of female identity that in our recent history was the goal of many battles as well as the enemy of many women’s protests, from the right to decide on the termination of a pregnancy, to the concept of women’s self-determination, to the right to a full sexual autonomy. In this sense, in this series, the on-scene presence of women with silicone baby dolls unsettles, more than any possible arguments, the two complementary operations that have allowed the formation of that female cultural identity, which still dominates despite the numerous battles that called it into question.
