When I think of football I don't think about or care that much about the professional game give me the heart and soul of the high school game. Like the best book ever written about football, FridayNightLights. Sometimes in a career, an assignment comes along and after the job, you think about your career in before and after terms. The opportunity to work on the book, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream in 1990 by #BuzzBissinger was that job for me. The book follows the story of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team from Odessa, Texas, as they made a run towards the Texas state championship. The book dealt in depth with the love, passion & ultimate anguish that the players felt as they fell short of their goal, to win the Texas High School State Championship. Bissinger was a journalist for The Philadelphia Inquirer While at the Inquirer Buzz received a Pulitzer Prize, & then took off for Odessa, Texas. Permian High School and its football team, the Panthers, had a substantial history of winning in Texas' 4A & 5A division. James "Boobie" Miles the Star fullback for heading into the 1988 season. The previous season he had rushed for 1,385 yards & showed flashes of brilliance. Boobie was being heavily recruited by major college football programs such as Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas A&M, & USC and had professional football aspirations before suffering a knee injury in the preseason. He would never recover 100% & eventually left the team. Mike Winchell, the starting quarterback for the team. Brian Chavez a very intelligent player went on to Harvard University. Ivory a Linebacker for the Panthers. A punishing hitter with excellent reflexes and athleticism, he is the only senior player from the 1988 Panther football team to receive a DI football scholarship, attending TCU. Jerrod McDougal, a offensive tackle, who has sacrificed a lot to become varsity, at 5'9", he practices several times a day to bring himself to an advantage. The FNL created a style of writing that has been often imitated by never equaled. The book went to become a classic movie a much loved movie by #PeterBerg. #FNL #MOJO #football
