Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, flanked by his wife Pam, speaks with reporters in Richmond on Feb. 2. Northam has faced a flood of calls to resign after a racist picture surfaced from his 1984 medical yearbook that shows a person in blackface and another wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood. @governorralphnortham issued an apology on Friday when the picture became public, saying in a statement he was “sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo.” The next day, he changed course and said "I am not either of the people in this photo." Northam did, however, admit to “darkening his face” in a Michael Jackson dance contest in Texas around the same time. @speakerpelosi called the photo “racist and contrary to fundamental American values” and called for him to “do the right thing.” Should Northam leave office, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Democrat and the second African-American to win statewide office in #Virginia, would become governor, the Associated Press reports. Read more at the link in bio.
