???...I hadn’t anticipated this purple and pink combination today; I’d had plans of a kind of rainbow outfit tbh, but when I delved into the loft yesterday and found these old favourites, I not only had to wear them, but they also reminded me of a slice of my personal history: I wore this colour combination on my first ever ‘non school uniform day’ when I was 12; a purple corduroy pinafore I’d made into a skirt, cerise tights, matching suede pointy shoes and this very same beret ( obviously to match the shoes )! I think I also wore a cream polo neck but I’m not absolutely certain. I remember wearing that same outfit when I excitedly went to London for the first time a few months later. Getting off the No.73 bus near Tottenham Court Rd with my mum, I was completely overwhelmed by how utterly, utterly fashionable everyone was who walked past me...I remember feeling instantly foolish and provincial in my cobbled together clothes. My mum must have noticed because she took me into a shop on Oxford St and bought me THE most amazing pair of orange trousers, which of course I wore immediately...life was never the same again! ?

• Beret- bought for me in about 1985 by my mum from the local department store ‘Rackhams’
• Cardigan - knitted by my mum in about 1983 and originally SO much more purple and fluffy as it was knitted with mohair...sadly worn down over the years
• Earrings - more adopted items from my mum circa 1990
• Pearls - My late Granny’s
• Blue V neck Jumper- this was my brother’s in about 1979 ( it says ‘Age 9 ‘ on the label. My younger cousin also wore it as a hand-me-down during the 1980’s, and I got my hands on it in about 1993
• Dress - My first ‘ball dress’ in shot silk from Monsoon in 1990 ( I think the ‘prom’ has taken over from the ‘ball’ ! )
• Tights - eBay a couple of years ago
• Shoes - ( the only recent expensive thing ) @グレンソン last year
• Lipstick - about 15 years old!! I think it’s Rimmel!!! ( there are a few more visual details in my Stories )
