1992 - 1994: Vert skating was considered a novelty at best, with only a handful of ramps in existence and even fewer competitions. I was making ends meet by being the “special guest” skateboarder at various Rollerblade demos and the occasional state fair stint with @condorbmx’s CFB crew. But mostly I was skating street (and mini-ramps) with the @birdhouseskateboards team, as that was our main focus as a company, and the most accessible to the majority of skaters. I realized after our third summer tour in 1994 - as I came home with two rolled ankles from handrails antics - that I should stick to my specialty if I’m going to have any longevity in this career. These clips represent my efforts of those challenging days, lifted from our first three Birdhouse videos; Feasters (1992), Ravers (1993) and Untitled (1994, with cameo of @rileyhawk as a baby). The Extreme Games debuted the next year and it suddenly seemed that vert skating was once again a viable career option based on the viewership. I would have never quit skating either way, but it was nice to not have to find another job just to pay the mortgage. ?: 20/20 - “Yellow Pills”
