This is how we roll when it’s -12F with a windchill of -25F. Last night and for the next couple nights we will be extra cozy with the humans due to a fire at the largest natural gas plant in our area leaving remaining operational plants struggling to be efficient enough. An emergency broadcast came over the phones (similar to an Amber alert) pleading with everyone to turn the heat thermostats to 65F or lower because the grids were overloaded and they feared it could cause an interruption of service.
This is a very minor ask considering there are homeless with no shelter at all and people living in homes with broken furnaces or unable to afford sufficient heat. This is also something the gas/energy company could not have foreseen as with any fires.
We are happy to comply and urge you to do the same provided you don’t have a situation where health is concerned and need warmer temps inside. An outage would be much worse if everyone doesn’t give just a little.
So grab some extra warm blankets, thicker socks, and cozy up to your loved ones til they get this sorted.
Our humans helped us stay warm with a couple heating pads under the blankets as well as letting us snuggle up next to them for some body heat. We like to think we helped them keep warm too because they slept really well even though HuMom had no room on her side hehe! I overheard her talking about buying us heated pet beds though so I guess it’s true that something good can come out of something bad. Heated beds sound dreamy!
